Free Government Cell Phone Provider Safelink Wireless
Free Government Cell Phone Provider Safelink Wireless
Safelink Wireless, created by Tracfone Wireless Inc. is a company that provides free government cell phones with minutes to the eligible people through government’s Lifeline phone assistance program.
What is the Lifeline Program?
The Lifeline program was originally started by President Ronald Reagan back in 1985 and had tremendous bipartisan support. No adjustments or changes were made to Lifeline by the FCC until 1996 due to the 1996 Telecommunications Act. The program back then provided landline phone connections to low-income households for as little as $10 a month. In 2008, the program was brought into the 21st century by the Bush Administration and the FCC by making the exact same program available for wireless phones.
If you meet the requirements to qualify for this government supported program, you’ll receive a free cell phone. There are several packages for the free minutes from which you can choose anyone that meets your needs. You need to re-qualify for the program every year. But the fact is that more people are being eligible for this program as the economic condition is deteriorating every year.
